The Weekday Almanac
The Weekday Almanac tests the small, unglamorous decisions that make up an ordinary week and reports back on what actually holds up.
The Weekday Almanac grew out of a shared spreadsheet. Priya Nakamura, then a UX researcher, had spent years running usability studies where she kept noticing the same thing: people didn't fail at their goals or their budgets from lack of motivation, they failed because the systems around them — whether a to-do app or a spending plan — were badly designed for how humans actually behave. She started keeping notes on both. A friend from a previous job, Naomi Reyes, was doing something similar from a completely different angle — after years training mediators to handle workplace conflict, she had her own running list of why 'just communicate better' advice falls apart the moment two real people disagree. When they compared notes over a video call in late 2022, the overlap was obvious enough that they started merging the two documents.
Dana Okafor joined a few months later. An occupational therapist by training, she brought a third lens — less about strategy and more about the physical and emotional friction that makes 'just do it' advice useless for most people. The three of them kept the project as a side effort for almost a year, testing ideas on themselves and a small group of volunteers before publishing anything. What eventually became this site is still built the same way: someone proposes a claim, someone tries to break it, and it only gets published if it survives contact with an actual week.
We write for readers who are tired of advice that sounds good in a headline and falls apart by Wednesday. If you've ever abandoned a productivity system, a budget, or a habit tracker within a month, you're exactly who we're writing for — not because you lacked discipline, but because the system probably deserved to be abandoned.
